To become a notary public, first secure a $10,000 notary bond from any insurance company of your choice. Bring the bond and your driver's license to the clerk's office to complete an application. Fee is $47.00 for new notary, which includes the cost of commission and notary stamp (without stamp is $19.00). To renew a notary, the fee is $19, with no stamp included. Applications may be submitted between the first day and the last day of each month. The County Commission will consider notary applications at their monthly meeting on the third Monday of the month, following the month of submission.
The clerk's office ONLY notarizes documents pertaining to the office (such as power of attorneys for vehicle transactions, marriage licenses and certificates, bill of sale for vehicles or boats, etc.)
Documents must be signed in the presence of the notary and valid proof of identification (which includes a photo) is required.
